The "Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh"
(JSK) (National Population Stabilization
Fund) has undertaken a unique exercise with
the help of National Informatics Centre to
create maps which show the existence of
health facilities district wise. These maps
are an amalgamation of GIS maps and Census
data which give a
picture of each district, its sub-divisions
and the location of Primary Health Centres,
Sub Centres, prominent towns and urban areas.
Separately for each
district there is an excel sheet which gives the
distance of each village in each taluka
(Sub-District) from the Primary Health
Center. The population of every village has
been given according to Census data, using
the Census Code. (The village names are
therefore not in alphabetic order).
The
GIS mapping and amalgamation of census data
has been completed for the entire country
except North Eastern states and Himachal
Pradesh due to the non-availability of
village level boundary data.

The information is based on a study “Ranking
and Mapping of Districts” done by Prof.
F. Ram and Dr. Chander Shekhar of
International Institute for Population
Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai. JSK has projected
this information in visual form to sensitize
all stakeholders and motivate them to take
up innovative projects which could make a
positive difference.
